Goals/Objectives

• Enhance our online presence via our website and social media outlets.
• Maintain email communications with our membership.
• Build and maintain our roster of Alliance members
• Maximize membership and attendance at Alliance meetings and events through media releases and supporter broadcasts.

Activities

• Post relevant items to our website and Facebook pages.
• Send our broadcast emails to our members.
• Work with program coordinators to effectively promote their events.
• Work with committees to create news articles about their activities and accomplishments.
• Develop and distribute news releases and ads to Southern Delaware media outlets.
• Attend community events to sign up new Alliance members.

Goals/Objectives

Goal 1: Educate community members about curriculum through knowledge and understanding of past an current racial issues and conditions. Assist Delaware schools in updating the US history curriculum to include African American history with America’s history. Increase understanding by citizens of all ages about the contributions of African American to the evolving story of American.

Goal 2: Involve more community leaders, for-profit and non-profit organizations to be speakers in classrooms to assist teachers in making students more aware of life outside of and after school.

Goal 3: Assist teachers in addressing civil rights and other current issues in their classes.

Activities

Obtain adopted textbooks and research information on the school curriculum.
Identify speakers for monthly meetings through the end of 2017.

Conduct corporate outreach to profit and non-profit leadership to partner with schools, i.e., Dover Air Force Base, real estate, healthcare, financial, computer technology and other major organizations to the benefit or all involved.

Goal: development and execution of a variety of revenue-producing activities to enable the SDARJ to implement its programs and outreach efforts.

Activities:

Grants

• research a variety of local and area-wide grant opportunities;
• maintain a current list of potential grantors, with their areas of interest and application deadlines;
• apply for grants, based on SDARJ needs and interests;
• working with relevant SDARJ committees, manage successful grant requirements throughout their period of execution.

Annual Appeal

• review SDARJ programs and accomplishments for the year; determine which should be highlighted for potential donors;
• develop the SDARJ annual appeal letter for Steering Committee approval;

Goals/Objectives

• Assist Steering Committee to establish SDARJ priorities for advocacy with government leaders and officials through surveys of members
• Monitor government actions (executive, legislative, and judicial) on key issues identified by Steering Committee
• Create opportunities for members and general public to gain greater awareness of government actions on key issues
• Advocate for progress on key issues by engaging government officials, like-minded groups, and the media
• Coordinate with the Office of Defense Services and others to support clinics in Sussex County to expunge juvenile records and to reform the expungement process for both juveniles and adults

Activities

• Organize annual survey of members’ priorities for the upcoming General Assembly session
• Follow legislative developments on key issues and keep Steering Committee and general membership informed
• Provide guidance to Steering Committee and members on timing and content of engagement with legislators, government officials, like-minded groups, and the press to support SDARJ legislative agenda
• Coordinate volunteer efforts to support ODS and other clinics for juvenile expungement, including securing funding for finger-printing costs

Goals/Objectives

Goal 1: To contact and meet with local religious, civic, business, charitable and political organizations in order to explain the mission, goals and accomplishments of the Alliance and to seek the support and participation of their members in the work of the Alliance.

• Coordinate with other Alliance committees to develop and publish educational and promotional materials
• Develop one or more standardized presentations that explains the work of the Alliance.
• Recruit a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural group of individuals who can speak at a variety of meetings, panels, forums and other functions about the Alliance.
• Explore the most effective ways to reach different types of organizations (e.g., What is the best way to reach out to African-American churches? What is the best approach for reaching out to more conservative organizations?)

Goal 2: To nurture partnerships and alliances between the Alliance and other groups.

• Learn about and promote Alliance member participation in community events (e.g., Juneteenth celebrations, MLK Celebration)
• Serve as consultants to other organizations who wish to develop their own racial justice efforts.
• Develop and publish a list of resources (books, films, websites) to support the growth of those efforts.
• Coordinate the mutual support of activities of the Alliance and other organizations.

Goal 3: In coordination with other Alliance committees, explore the feasibility of and experiment with different tools and approaches to reach a wider audience.

• Develop tools (e.g., Facebook Live for meetings, video clips of interviews with Alliance members, video clips of Sussex County residents who have been impacted by racial injustice, distribute a newsletter) Events
