Legislative/Advocacy Committee

Goals/Objectives

  • Assist Steering Committee to establish SDARJ priorities for advocacy with government leaders and officials through surveys of members
  • Monitor government actions (executive, legislative, and judicial) on key issues identified by Steering Committee
  • Create opportunities for members and general public to gain greater awareness of government actions on key issues
  • Advocate for progress on key issues by engaging government officials, like-minded groups, and the media
  • Coordinate with the Office of Defense Services and others to support clinics in Sussex County to expunge juvenile records and to reform the expungement process for both juveniles and adults

Activities

  • Organize annual survey of members’ priorities for the upcoming General Assembly session
  • Follow legislative developments on key issues and keep Steering Committee and general membership informed
  • Provide guidance to Steering Committee and members on timing and content of engagement with legislators, government officials, like-minded groups, and the press to support SDARJ legislative agenda
  • Coordinate volunteer efforts to support ODS and other clinics for juvenile expungement, including securing funding for finger-printing costs
