September town hall cancellation
Dear Community Member,
Thank you for registering to attend “Addressing the Silences: SDARJ and John Dickinson Plantation Partnership Update”, which was scheduled for September 22, 2026, at the Lewes Public Library. The event was intended to share the ongoing work of the partnership between the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) and the John Dickinson Plantation, including efforts to elevate the stories of enslaved, free, and indentured Black people whose lives helped shape Delaware history.
After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Town Hall.
We understand that many of you planned to attend because you care deeply about preserving overlooked histories, supporting community dialogue, and learning more about the work being done through the Addressing the Silences initiative. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment this cancellation may cause.
Please know that this decision was not made lightly. We remain fully committed to the values that brought us together in this work: telling history with accuracy and dignity, amplifying voices that have too often been excluded, and fostering meaningful community engagement.
We are deeply grateful for your interest and support. Your willingness to engage in these conversations reminds us that our community values a fuller and more inclusive understanding of our shared history.
As future opportunities become available to learn about the partnership’s work, the audio narratives, and the Addressing the Silences Toolkit, we will be sure to share that information with you.
Thank you for your understanding and for standing with us in the ongoing effort to ensure that stories that have been silenced are heard, honored, and remembered.
With gratitude,
Gwendolyn Miller
