Congratulations to Andrew Oxendine SDARJ Board Member, Honored as CHEER Volunteer of the Year
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) proudly congratulates board member Andrew Oxendine on being named Volunteer of the Year for CHEER’s Coastal Leisure Center in Ocean View during CHEER’s Annual Volunteer Appreciation Awards Ceremony held May 26 at the Georgetown CHEER Community Center. The event recognized volunteers from across Sussex County whose service strengthens the lives of older adults and the communities they serve.
Andrew’s recognition reflects his longstanding commitment to helping others. As a member of the SDARJ Board of Directors, he currently leads the organization’s Returning Citizens Committee, which works to support individuals reentering society after incarceration and to promote opportunities for successful reintegration into the community. His leadership, compassion, and dedication have already made a meaningful impact on SDARJ’s work throughout Sussex County.
The CHEER ceremony drew nearly 200 volunteers and community leaders, including Delaware Governor Matt Meyer, who attended to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of volunteers from across the county. The presence of the governor underscored the importance of volunteer service and the vital role organizations such as CHEER play in supporting Delaware residents.
Andrew’s selection as Volunteer of the Year is a testament to the spirit of service that defines both CHEER and SDARJ. Whether assisting seniors through CHEER programs or advocating for second chances through SDARJ’s Returning Citizens Committee, he exemplifies the power of community engagement and servant leadership.
