Congratulations to Tierra Williams! SDARJ Congratulates Board Member Tierra Williams on Multiple Journalism Honors
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) proudly congratulates newly elected board member Tierra Williams on receiving distinguished recognition for her outstanding work as a journalist with WMDT-TV, the ABC affiliate serving Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Delaware.
Williams recently earned a Second Place Award for Outstanding In-Depth Reporting from the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association (CAPBA) for her news story, “2020 Recap: Black Lives Matter vs. Blue Lives Matter.” The report examined one of the most important social justice conversations of our time and featured interviews with SDARJ Founder Charlotte King and Executive Director Joe Lawson, helping bring local voices and perspectives to a broader regional audience.
This honor adds to an already impressive list of professional accomplishments. Williams also received a First Place Award for Black History Month 2025 coverage, recognizing her excellence in reporting stories that preserve, celebrate, and elevate African American history and achievement. Together, these awards reflect her commitment to thoughtful journalism, community engagement, and storytelling that informs and inspires.
The Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association is one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s premier journalism organizations, representing Associated Press-affiliated television and radio stations throughout Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, D.C. CAPBA’s annual awards program recognizes excellence in broadcast journalism and honors reporters whose work demonstrates exceptional professionalism, accuracy, public service, and impact.
Throughout her career, Williams has earned a reputation for producing meaningful stories that explore important issues affecting communities across Delmarva. Her reporting has consistently highlighted voices that are too often overlooked while helping audiences better understand the challenges and opportunities facing the region.
SDARJ is particularly proud that her award-winning reporting included the perspectives of Charlotte King and Joe Lawson during a pivotal period in the nation’s ongoing dialogue about race, justice, and community relations. Her work exemplifies the role that quality journalism can play in fostering understanding and constructive conversation.
As Tierra begins her service on the SDARJ Board of Directors, we celebrate both her professional achievements and the expertise she brings to the organization. Her background in journalism, communications, and community storytelling will be a tremendous asset as SDARJ continues its mission to advance racial justice and opportunity throughout Delaware.
Congratulations, Tierra Williams, on these well-deserved honors and on your continued commitment to excellence in journalism and service to the community.
