Youth Ambassadors for the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) are students and/or young people from Sussex County who have a commitment to supporting SDARJ’s mission of advocating for racial justice, equality and fair opportunity for all citizens (see SDARJ.org). Youth Ambassadors agree to be contacted by SDARJ members to inform them of activities that would be of interest to them and invite them to participate in various programs or activities.
Possible activities would include:
Write articles or letters for the SDARJ Newsletter
Communicate to students, in conjunction with the school counselors, about the SDARJ scholarship and other opportunities for students.
Develop ideas for future modules or activities for students re: equity.
Serve as an advisor to the SDARJ Education and Scholarship Committee regarding the wording and requirements of the scholarship application, the dissemination of it to schools, and other issues of concern as needed.
Serve as panel discussion members for the SDARJ when needed.
Participate in the delivery of modules or lessons prepared by the Youth Education Committee. When appropriate, Student Ambassadors could assist as co-leaders or could be student participants in the modules/lessons.
Attend and participate in SDARJ community/public events, providing the youth perspective on major issues such as individual and systemic racism, youth voting, and school curriculum.
