Sussex County Students Discuss School Experiences
A panel of Sussex County students shared their real-life experiences in high school and their dreams and plans for the future at our meeting on November 14th, 2017. The students are enrolled in Cape Henlopen, Sussex Tech, and Seaford High Schools and are participants in the Pathways to Success program which “devotes its energy to helping youth and adults acquire the life skills necessary for future and continuing achievement. Utilizing innovative and creative approaches to mentoring, education, and community outreach, Pathways informs, educates, and empowers individuals.”
Education is often considered the key to unlocking a young person’s future. How do these Sussex students regard their school experience? How is school preparing them for the future? What issues do the students see, and what are their ideas for making learning meaningful for them? As the school year continues, the public focus turns to education. We can shine a light on successes, challenges, resources and solutions.
The Alliance’s November 14 Forum program presented a rare opportunity to hear the current student perspective on learning in our county.
- How is high school preparing students for next steps in life?
- What is helping or hindering students in reaching for their dreams?
- What can citizens in their communities do to support student learning?
