SDARJ African American Achievement Award at Southern Delaware School of the Arts
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) recently honored Southern Delaware School of the Arts 7th grader Aaliyah Cannon for her leadership, effort, and excellence. Aaliyah was recognized in a ceremony at the school and received a $20 bookstore gift card.
According to teacher Amanda Swain, “Aaliyah is a poised, intelligent, responsible, and creative young woman who always puts forth her best effort academically and embraces the arts. She is always kind, positive, and respectful to both peers and adults. She is equally successful independently and as a collaborative learner and is comfortable supporting her own ideas while being open to new ideas and perspectives.”
SDARJ initiated the African American Achievement award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, improvement, effort, and excellence in their schools. Students from each school in the Cape Henlopen and Indian River School Districts are recognized throughout the school year. SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs, and advocates for racial justice, equality, and fair opportunity. For more information, go to sdarj.org.
