SDARJ African American Achievement Award at Phillip Showell Elementary School
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) recently honored Phillip Showell Elementary School student Malaysia Handy for her leadership, effort, and excellence. Malaysia was recognized in a ceremony at the school and received a $20 bookstore gift card.
Malaysia’s teacher, Christine Clattenburg, has enjoyed watching Malaysia grow and bloom over the years. Mrs. Clattenburg praised Malaysia for working her hardest every day and her consistent attendance.
According to Mrs. Clattenburg, Malaysia is always eager to work and put in extra time. She sets goals for herself and is always trying to improve her scores. Malaysia worked hard to become a member of National Honor Society and joined the school band. She has the drive, the determination, and the work ethic to achieve anything she puts her mind to. Malaysia is also a great role model for younger Phillip Showell students.
SDARJ initiated the African American Achievement award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, improvement, effort, and excellence in their schools. Students from each school in the Cape Henlopen and Indian River School Districts are recognized throughout the school year. SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs, and advocates for racial justice, equality, and fair opportunity. For more information, go to sdarj.org.
