LEWES, Del. – Drivers all along route one in Lewes may have noticed a new set of billboards along the highly traveled road.
The large billboards, located across from Surf Bagel, read “Enough is Enough on one side and “Racism Hurts Everyone” on the other. The group Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) is responsible for the signs. Officials say they wanted to take advantage of the busy summer route and make their message heard loud and clear. The billboard space was actually donated by the Schell Brothers who the organization says agreed to become a partner to end racism.
“Racism is not just a problem for a group of people. It is a problem for the country and it’s a resolve-able problem but we have to say like what we say with everything else, enough is enough. It’s time,” says Charlotte King, the founder of SDARJ.
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice says their work doesn’t stop there. They hosted a virtual town hall back in June and plan to host another one on July 14th. Anyone and everyone is invited to participate. The goal is to educate people about systemic racism, how to move forward and create positive change.
