Robert Smalls – Civil War Hero, Black political leader during Reconstruction. Smalls had won freedom for himself and his family, and was a famous war hero.
This week, Congress is moving forward with its budget package, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which would strip health care and food access from millions of Americans with limited incomes to offset tax cuts for the wealthy. This bill slashes funding for Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which are proven to reduce poverty, threatening the independence of everyday Americans.
Representatives from Delaware Department of Health & Social Services and the Delaware Medicare Assistance Program (DMAP) were jo;ined by the Director of Advocacy for Community Legal Aid Society, Inc., the Chairperson of SDARJ, and a representative of US Representative Sarah McBride on June 12 to discuss Medicaid & Social Security in the shadow of the pending Budget Bill.
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) proudly announces the election of Reverend Marjorie Belmont as Chairperson, the appointment of Ms. Gwendolyn Miller as Vice Chair, and the selection of Mr. Joseph Lawson as its first Executive Director.
Carney was promoted to sergeant and awarded the Medal of Honor for his gallantry in battle. He was the first black service member to be awarded the medal.
