Benjamin Oliver Davis Sr. was a career officer in the United States Army. One of the few black officers in an era when American society was largely segregated, in 1940 he was promoted to brigadier general, the army’s first African American general officer.
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) recently honored Georgetown Middle School student London Sturgis for her leadership, effort, and excellence. London was recognized in a ceremony at the school and received a bookstore gift card.
A town hall meeting in Lewes, Delaware addressed hate incidents targeting African-Americans in Sussex County. The meeting, hosted by the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice, featured leaders from the Millville Volunteer Fire Company, the Sussex County NAACP, and other organizations. The discussion focused on implementing new policies and training to combat hate incidents and harassment.
