To all Members and Friends of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice,
The Alliance has sent two letters to the Town of Georgetown in opposition to its granting a funding request from a non-government, non-profit, which hosts a “memorial” to the Confederacy and flies the Confederate Battle flag. The letters, below, point out that the State refused to fund this organization in 2019, that glorifying the Confederacy is not acceptable and experience now demonstrates that communities that removed the Jim Crow era Confederate memorials are benefiting from those actions.
The Georgetown Town Council is scheduled to consider the funding request from the Georgetown Historical Society at its July 25 meeting. The Town Council welcomes input; here are the email addresses for its members:
Mayor Bill West:

Town Council Members:
Christina Diaz-Malone:
cdiaz-malone@georgetowndel.com
Sue Barlow:
sbarlow@georgetowndel.com
Angela Townsend
atownsend@georgetowndel.com
Penuel Barrett
pbarrett@georgetowndel.com
The Alliance will continue to work to promote good public policy in order to move towards ending racism, its manifestations and consequences. The Agenda Item # 9 funding request made to the Town of Georgetown by a private organization is not acceptable.
Thank you,
Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice
