Honoring Beacon Middle School students for their leadership, effort, and excellence.
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) recently honored Beacon Middle School students Mikah Jackson and Kyla Anadu for their leadership, effort, and excellence.
Mikah Jackson is an athlete, scholar, and a dedicated family member. He appreciates the inspiration and advice he receives from his mother and siblings and applies what he learns from them to his academic career. Mikah excels in language arts and participates in several sports.
Mikah plays both football and basketball at Cape and travels with the leagues. For him, sports are an opportunity to excel and escape from the cares of life. Mikah gets both relief and power from his involvement in sports. He is a keen student of others and strives to become a better athlete by incorporating what he observes in his teammates. Mikah’s continuous growth and effort are to be applauded.
Kyla Anadu is an outstanding student who represents everything an 8th-grader should be. Well-liked, admired, and respected, this talented young woman demonstrates all that is good in our world today.
Kyla demonstrates outstanding academic performance. She sets a high personal standard without compromise and her work ethic and inquisitive nature make her a joy in the classroom. She has strong leadership skills and is a reliable and trusted friend. Teachers can count on Kyla as a role model for her peers and she is a good representative of her family.
Kyla displays cultural awareness. She is respectful and inclusive in her interactions with others and values all perspectives. She educates herself about different cultures, customs, and traditions. Kyla values diversity and understands the importance of promoting equity and inclusion in all areas of life.
Mikah and Kyla were honored in a ceremony at the school and each received a $20 gift card to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth from SDARJ.
SDARJ initiated the African American Achievement award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, effort, and excellence in their schools. Students from each school in the Cape Henlopen and Indian River School Districts are recognized throughout the school year. SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs, and advocates for racial justice, equality, and fair opportunity.
