The Nassau School Open House
You are encouraged to attend the public meeting on July 25, to learn about the progress and to add your voice to this important project. You will also hear more about how the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice, as the on site resident, will work to assure the community’s access and use of the building.
In the Fall of 2019 the Southern Delaware Alliance of Racial Justice convened a meeting to discuss the establishment of a coalition to consider and plan for the restoration and preservation of the Nassau Colored School in BellTown. This community meeting of more than 100 individuals affirmed a strong commitment to not only restore the School, but to utilize it to preserve the rich African American history of those who lived in Belltown, attended the school, and made many contributions to the Sussex Co. area.
Since 2019 much work has been made towards the restoration of the Nassau Colored School through the collaborative efforts of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice, the Nassau Coalition, the Delaware Historical and Cultural Affairs, and the Greater Lewes Community Foundation.
