Ecumenical Civil Rights Pilgrimage
Organized by the Episcopal Church in Delaware & New Castle Presbytery
Ecumenical Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Montgomery and Selma, AL
WHO: Designed for people who:
- have a pre-existing commitment to racial justice work,
- wish to engage in an in-person journey together, and
- will continue acting on what we have experienced upon return.
- Space is limited; we can accommodate 30 travelers.
WHY: Our goal is to raise up change agents for racial healing, reconciliation, and justice work in church and community.
Listening to those who came before us is essential to our commitment to the path ahead. Montgomery and Selma, Alabama are heavy with history and rich in opportunities to understand more about the racial justice that continues to plague our society.
Visiting historical sites, memorials, museums, and landmarks while sharing honest conversations about personal and community experiences, generational trauma, and beliefs, we hope to further equip people for the work of becoming the Beloved Community Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King envisioned.
WHERE/WHEN:
The pilgrimage begins with a shared evening meal at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22nd in Montgomery and ends after a morning session on Thursday, September 26th.
WHAT: Participants commit to being present for the full experience, including:
- Four nights at the Embassy Suites hotel in Montgomery, Alabama
- All meals from Sunday dinner through Thursday breakfast
- All bus travel in Montgomery and Selma
- All museum fees, including the Equal Justice Initiative’s Legacy Museum
- Tours with local historians in Montgomery and Selma
- Time for sharing, listening, questioning, and reflecting.
- Trained facilitators and materials
- Pre-and post-trip gatherings and assessments
COST: How much will it cost?
The cost for each participant is $1,250 plus individual travel costs to/from Montgomery.
*Some need-based scholarships are available upon request.
FACILITATORS:
Our four experienced facilitators are led by Lori Yadin of the Center for Courage and Renewal, who brings her deep wisdom and years of experience to this work of compassion, honesty, and the seeking of justice and healing.
