Volunteers Needed For Get-Out-The-Vote Phone Bank
We are looking for volunteers to assist the Sussex County chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to call individuals in Sussex County for the purpose of encouraging them to vote. In addition, the calls will provide information about how to vote by mail, the suggested date to mail their ballot to the Department of Elections and where to get information about candidates.
The two sororities are undertaking this project with the League of Women Voters of Sussex County Delaware.
The target population for this effort are residents, 18-35, who live in the County’s 14 impacted the communities and the RDs and election districts for these communities.
Volunteers will be given a pre-election and election day script as well as a call list. The projected date for beginning the pre-election calls is October 10. Of course, the date for the election day calls is November 3rd.
The estimated number of calls to be made is 2,800. The number of volunteers determines the number of calls each volunteer will make. For example, 50 volunteers means 56 calls per volunteer. 100 volunteers reduces the number to 28 per volunteer. Right now, we have 28 volunteers.
Both the LWVSCDE, the AKAs and the Deltas are receiving calls from individuals who have pledged to make calls. More are needed.
