Town Hall: Police and Community Relations
“Bridging the Gap Between Law Enforcement and the Community” was the focus of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice’s Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. The Town Hall, which was held at the Trinity Faith Center on New Road in Lewes, was sponsored by the Delaware Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE).
Commissioner of the Delaware Department of Corrections Perry Phelps headed a panel of experts who explained their initiatives to improve current law enforcement relationships and assistance they provide to local communities. Panelists included Chief R.L. Hughes from the Georgetown Police Department, Chief Michael Hertzfeld from the Delaware Capitol Police, and Colonel Nathaniel McQueen, Jr. from the Delaware State Police.
Commissioner Phelps serves on the Wilmington University Criminal Justice Advisory Board, the DelTech Criminal Justice Advisory Board, and the Polytech High School Criminal Justice Program Advisory Board. He is also an adjunct instructor at Wilmington University in the College of Social and Behavioral Services and the College of Business.
