This year marks a milestone for the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ): a full decade of educating, informing, and advocating for racial justice, equality, and fair opportunity across Sussex County and beyond.
Delaware celebrated extraordinary women at the annual Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Chase Center on the Riverfront. The event honored this year’s inductees, which included Valerie Biden Owens, Claire DeMatteis, Charlotte King, and Charlotte Miller-Lacy, recognizing their leadership, dedication, and lasting impact on their communities, professions, and the state.
We are proud to announce that Charlotte King, Founder and Chair Emeritus of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ), will be inducted into the Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame this September. Governor John Carney named Charlotte as one of four women selected for this prestigious honor in 2025.
Charlotte King Named One of Delaware’s Most Influential People Impacting the Community in 2025. In 2015, philanthropist Charlotte King, a New York native, founded the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice to address the underrepresentation of Black residents in Sussex County’s public and private sectors.
The Mitchell Awards recognize exceptional local leaders who are catalysts of change, driving us toward an inclusive community where everyone can succeed and thrive together.
