SDARJ African American Achievement Award at Southern Delaware School for the Arts
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) recently honored Southern Delaware School for the Arts fifth-grader Alaska Richardson for her leadership, effort, and excellence. Alaska was recognized in a ceremony at the school and received a $20 bookstore gift card.
Alaska is a role-model student who shows kindness and respect to her peers and teachers. She demonstrates leadership qualities by setting a positive example with her attitude towards learning and the arts.
Alaska’s effort to express her school pride shows, especially during arts classes. Outside of school, Alaska is involved in her community and is an active member at church. Alaska is a creative, hardworking, and responsible young lady who consistently puts forth her best effort in everything she does. She demonstrates kindness, positivity, and respect toward both her peers and school staff.
Alaska expresses her creativity through dance, art, and writing and her warm, optimistic personality is truly uplifting. She is always willing to help her classmates and genuinely wants to see others succeed. Alaska is a bright presence in the classroom.
SDARJ initiated the African American Achievement award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, improvement, effort, and excellence in their schools. Students from each school in the Cape Henlopen and Indian River School Districts are recognized throughout the school year. SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs, and advocates for racial justice, equality, and fair opportunity.
