About this event
Length: 1 hour 30 minutes
As the new year begins, so does the new legislative session for our state representatives. The SDARJ Legislative/Advocacy Committee is also gearing up for what will hopefully be an effective and successful year advocating for legislation that aligns with and supports our mission.
Those giving presentations in this webinar include:
Clara Licata, SDARJ Legislative/Advocacy Committee Chair, will provide a summary of legislative achievements from the previous session. She will also provide a preview of the SDARJ priorities for the upcoming session (specifically important legislation slated to be introduced in the upcoming session).
Senator Kyle Gay will discuss the bill she will be introducing providing Medicaid coverage for abortions. This bill will also require private health insurance companies to cover abortions.
Haneef Salaam, Director of the ACLU’s Campaign for Smart Justice, will discuss plans for introducing new legislation to amend the Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights.
A question and answer session will follow the presentations of the panelists.
