SDARJ Is Recruiting Committee & Board Volunteers

Since our founding, the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice has worked to educate, advocate, convene, and inspire action for racial equity across Sussex County and Delaware. As we mark our 10th anniversary, we’re growing our committees — and we need you.

History Committee Volunteers. This committee’s objective is to help tell a true and accurate story of Sussex County history — one that highlights the struggles and achievements of African Americans and other Americans who have fought for justice throughout Delaware and American history. Volunteers help develop presentations, partner with our Outreach Committee on town halls, and write historical features — including “Did You Know” pieces — for Black Voices, our newsmagazine reaching roughly 70,000 readers a year. This work has never been more important, as efforts at the federal level attempt to erase or rewrite this history. Meets at least quarterly.

Returning Citizens Committee. Support Sussex County residents rebuilding their lives after incarceration. Members help distribute Dignity Backpacks, conduct prison visits, partner with reentry organizations, and support policy reform efforts. Meets as needed.

Education Committee. Help students and adult learners reach their full potential. Members support SDARJ’s scholarship programs — for high schoolers and adults returning to school — academic recognition for middle and junior high students, teen counseling sessions, and other educational initiatives. Meets at least four times a year.

Black Film Festival Committee. Join the team bringing SDARJ’s Black Film Festival to life — screening films that illuminate Black history, culture, and the ongoing fight for racial justice, and sparking community conversation. We’re looking for members to help select films, coordinate logistics, and lead post-screening discussions.

Writers for Black Voices. Contribute your voice to SDARJ’s newsmagazine. We’re looking for writers to research and draft articles on Black history, culture, and racial justice for our roughly 70,000 annual readers.
