SDARJ Call to Action

Several bills that we have been working very hard on will be having committee hearings tomorrow, May 21. Please take this opportunity to support our efforts. Here are ways to do this.
Probation Reform Join us and/or submit a public comment in support of SB 7 and SB 8.
Senate Bill 7 (SB 7) and Senate Bill 8 (SB 8) tailor special conditions to the person on probation’s needs and limit the use of some existing standard conditions, like substance use testing of all people on probation, that create unnecessary barriers to successful re-entry. Combined, SB 7’s tailoring requirements and SB 8’s revised standard conditions list will be a significant improvement to our probation system and reduce the overly burdensome requirements that do nothing to assist successful reentry, rehabilitation, or public safety that people on probation currently face.
Email Sen. Russ Huxtable to ask him to support SB8.

Voting Rights Three voting rights constitutional amendments
Three voting rights constitutional amendments we have been supporting (SS 1 to SB 2, SS 1 to SB 3, and HB 180) are scheduled for a hearing in the House Administration Committee on Wednesday, May 21st at 3:00 PM.
SS1 to SB2 is a constitutional amendment permitting no excuse absentee voting. SS1 to SB3 is a constitutional amendment permitting in person early voting. HB180 is a constitutional amendment ending permanent felony disenfranchisement after an offender has served his sentence of incarceration and is free. This amendment also makes technical corrections to the constitution eliminating outdated literacy and durational residency requirements.
SS1 to SB2 and SS1 to SB3 passed the Senate and will be in the House Administration Committee, along with HB180. Ways you can show support:
