SDARJ African American Achievement Award at Rehoboth Elementary School
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) recently honored Rehoboth Elementary students Elijah Cain and Rayoniah Hood for their leadership, improvement, effort and excellence. Elijah is in fifth grade and Rayoniah is in fourth.
Tina Windsor, Elijah’s ELA teacher, said, “Elijah’s enthusiastic energy is evident throughout the day. He works wonderfully with all students and always makes us smile.”
Allie Mueller, Elijah’s math teacher, said, “Elijah’s always cheerful demeanor and enthusiasm bring so much brightness and joy to our classroom. He has a love for learning and is dedicated, not only to his own achievement, but to helping others be successful as well. I am immensely grateful to have the opportunity to teach and learn from Elijah.”
Celeste Marvin, Rayoniah’s ELA teacher, said, “Rayoniah is a bright and hard-working student who constantly demonstrates her potential and leadership. She is one of the highest readers in her class, entering the grade reading above level. She consistently attends the after-school program and completes her nightly reading. In the classroom, Rayoniah is a role model, demonstrating respect and responsibility, and thoughtfully listens and contributes to classroom discussions. Recently, she enthusiastically shared her experience attending a special event in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”
Isabella Nicoletti, Rayoniah’s math teacher, said, “Rayoniah is a role-model student. She is kind, bright, friendly, and hardworking.”
The students received a $20 gift card to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth and a book about Thurgood Marshall. Browseabout is a sponsor of the award.
SDARJ initiated the African American Achievement award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, improvement, effort, and excellence in their schools. Two students from each school in the Cape Henlopen School District are recognized throughout the school year. SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs, and advocates for racial justice, equality, and fair opportunity.
