SDARJ African American Achievement Award at Phillip C. Showell
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) recently honored Phillip C. Showell Elementary School third-grader Kaycen Davis for his leadership, effort, and excellence. Kaycen was recognized in a ceremony at the school and received a $20 bookstore gift card.
According to Kaycen’s teachers, he works hard on every assignment, pays attention during class, and loves to participate. Kaycen jumps up to help any student or teacher who needs it. He is especially caring towards a student who uses a wheelchair.
Kaycen is polite, caring, and hard-working and has impeccable manners. He shows respect for both classmates and adults. He is always open to suggestions to improve academically or socially. When he knows he needs help with a new skill, Kaycen isn’t afraid to ask for extra help so that he can do his best.
SDARJ initiated the African American Achievement award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, improvement, effort, and excellence in their schools. Students from each school in the Cape Henlopen and Indian River School Districts are recognized throughout the school year. SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs, and advocates for racial justice, equality, and fair opportunity.
