SDARJ African American Achievement Award at Cape Henlopen High School
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) recently honored Cape Henlopen High School seniors Jayden Wilson and Savion Shockley-White for their leadership, effort, and excellence. The students were recognized in a ceremony at the school and received $20 gift cards to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach.
Jayden Wilson is a deeply engaged member of the school community with a strong commitment to the arts. He is heavily involved in both theater and band, participating in plays, musicals, and marching band, and consistently meets the significant time and effort demands associated with these programs through dedication and hard work.
Known as a friendly and welcoming presence, he is a positive influence on peers and staff alike. Academically, Jayden continues to challenge himself through a rigorous course load and has further demonstrated his commitment to growth by adding an Advanced Placement course in Music Theory this year. He exemplifies the values of a Cape Viking through his work ethic, kindness, and generosity with his time, talents, and incredible effort.
Savion Shockley-White’s teacher describes him as one of the most resilient and determined students she has had the pleasure of teaching. Savion consistently puts forth his best effort in all his classes and comes to school each day with a genuine desire to excel.
Savion is extremely polite, personable, and easy to talk to. He has a great sense of humor that makes him a joy to have in the building. He demonstrates strong self-awareness and a natural curiosity about the world. He holds himself to very high standards, which reflects how deeply he cares about his growth and success.
SDARJ initiated the African American Achievement award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, improvement, effort, and excellence in their schools. Students from each school in the Cape Henlopen and Indian River School Districts are recognized throughout the school year. SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs, and advocates for racial justice, equality, and fair opportunity.
