Supporting Our Youth, Defending our history was the theme of SDARJ’s third annual MLK celebration. This year the event was a fundraiser for the Charlotte King Scholarship Fund.
Although a minority educator’s influence is frequently characterized as strong, it is immeasurable. Diversity in numbers is only one aspect of representation in education; other aspects include identity, visibility, access, belonging, and the transforming power of connection. Many students, particularly those of color, find that a single teacher who resembles them can change not only their academic path but also their life’s course.
SDARJ recently honored Lewes Elementary School fifth-graders Lyrical Cornelius and Camille Steinberg for their leadership, effort, and excellence.
SDARJ recently honored Cape Henlopen High School seniors Jayden Wilson and Savion Shockley-White for their leadership, effort, and excellence. The students were recognized in a ceremony at the school and received gift cards to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach.
