As you know, our nation’s greatest peacemaker, Dr. Martin Luther King, was snatched from us by a sniper’s bullet 50 years ago at 6:00 p.m. April 6th at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, now, the location of the National Civil Rights Museum. That shot reverberated throughout the world. As members of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial […]
Over the past year, many of us have been politically activated (or reactivated!) with a passion to create change from the bottom up; however, we may not have the tools necessary to knowledgeably and effectively create change within our locale. The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice is teaming up with Women’s March – Sussex […]
Representative James Johnson will be our guest at the March 13th meeting. He will be updating the group on important legislation, recently enacted or pending, that should improve racial justice in Delaware. The head of Delaware’s prisons says 30% of prisoners have mental illness, and of them, about 15% are considered seriously mentally ill. But for the most part, Department of Correction Commissioner Perry Phelps said people in jail deserve to be there. He said 51 % of the prison population are violent offenders compared with 10 % who are in for drug charges.
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) affirms its rejection of racism, anti-Semitism and discrimination. We strongly reject the destructive value systems of white supremacists, neo-Nazis, alt-right and other groups because they lack respect for human equality. The criminal behavior of these hate groups violates not only the rights of all people, but also denies and acts against the core principles of our democracy.
