About the book
This picture book is about Charles S. Parker, a trailblazing Black scientist who made major contributions to the fields of botany (the study of plants) and mycology (the study of fungi). From his earliest years, his passion was plants. As a soldier in World War I, Charles witnessed massive ecological devastation. He was determined to have a career making things grow, not destroying them. His accomplishments included discovering the source of a disease killing peach and apricot trees and teaching the next generation of Black scientists at Howard University.
This event is presented in partnership with Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ).
