Good Trouble Lives On: Film Screening and Voting Rights Discussion — July 17 at Epworth
“Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.” — Rep. John Lewis (1940–2020)
On Thursday, July 17, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Epworth United Methodist Church (19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach) will host a screening of the documentary “The Sins of our Fathers: Race, Religion, and the Rise of Trump.” The film follows a white Evangelical whose assumptions are upended by a hard look at the history of Charleston, South Carolina — leading him to examine how partisan strategy has exploited white Christian identity and to reckon with our nation’s history of racial injustice.
Following the film, special guest State Rep. Larry Lambert will lead a discussion on the protections established under Delaware’s new state-level John Lewis Voting Rights Act. SDARJ was one of several organizations that lobbied for the passage of the bill which is very important given the massive attack on the voting rights of African Americans in the courts and southern state legislatures.
This event is sponsored by Indivisible Southern Delaware, and SDARJ is proud to serve as a promotional partner. The evening kicks off the “Good Trouble Lives On” Weekend of Action (July 17–19), honoring the legacy of Congressman John Lewis with three days of remembrance and civic engagement.
Epworth holds special meaning for our community. In 2025, SDARJ led a “John Lewis Lives On” event there that brought together more than 450 people. SDARJ has also held our Martin Luther King MLK celebrations at Epworth for the pas three years.
We hope you’ll help us fill the room again as we honor his legacy, defend democracy, and build the future.
Admission is free, but please RSVP at mobilize.us/southerndelawareindivisible/event/983150.
