On May 21,2025 the United States House of Representatives passed a bill cutting federal spending on healthcare by $800 million dollars primarily through cuts to Medicaid spending*. Social Security staff and access are being cut by the government as well.

The fate of the bill is uncertain in the Senate. A vote on the Senate version of the bill is expected in July.

Saving Medicaid and Social Security will be the topic of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice’s timely June Town Hall. The event will be held at the Cheer Senior Center in Georgetown.

Over 236,000** Delawareans receive some sort of help from Medicaid as 2024 . That represents almost one in four people in our state. The African American community in our state will be especially hard hit. These cuts will devastate health care for many people in our state and could lead to the closing or reduction of medical services in Delaware hospitals and clinics. This town hall will be about fighting back and protecting these vital benefits. Experts on Medicaid and social security will speak in addition to governmental representatives who will update us on the status of the proposed legislation.

Attendees will also be able to sign petitions and send letters to governmental officials opposing cutting these programs.
