Dialogue Toward Ending Racism A dynamic program that moves us to a greater understanding of others in our communities.
How can we make America a better and fairer society for all?
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice offers a FREE guided discussion series Dialogue Toward Ending Racism (DTER) that meets 6 times for 2-hour sessions.
Join us in-person or online and get to know people here in Sussex County who want to learn more about racism and the state of race relations today. We’ll cover:
- The history of racism
- Signs of systemic racism
- Bias in ourselves and others
- Ways to communicate more effectively to stop racism from spreading
- Learn about organizations here in Delaware that are bringing people together to address the problems and needs of our neighbors.
Registration is FREE and required. We encourage you to commit to attending all 6 two hour sessions. Facilitators are local volunteers who, besides having careers in education, business, health, and social work, have completed facilitator training specific to this program.

More about this event series
Racism affects our community and every person’s quality of life. It shows up in inequalities between groups and in tensions among people from different ethnic backgrounds. To strengthen our communities and to build a more open-hearted country, we need to face racism head-on. In a democracy, there must be ways for everyone to have a voice in finding the solutions.
- A safe space to talk frankly, listen deeply, and learn from each other.
- Trained facilitators guide discussions on the history, causes, and impact of racism — and ways to end it.
- Real change happens when we listen to each other’s stories.
- Lasting friendships often begin in DTER sessions.
Now, more than ever, we need to listen to each other, break down the walls between us, and channel our emotions into meaningful and sustainable actions and relationships.
DTER sponsors a bus tour of Western Sussex County to discuss the history of racial oppression and show the disparity between living conditions for people in Western Sussex versus the coastal area. Local historians narrate this trip and offer meetings along the way with community activists. Visit the calendar on our website to learn more.
DTER is in its 7th year and is a program of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice which has been educating and motivating for 10 years.
