for a series of historical events that will educate our community and commemorate the end of slavery on June 19, 1865!
SDARJ to host a celebration of Juneteenth
We are presenting “A Celebration of Juneteenth” at our town hall meeting on Tuesday, June 14, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., via Zoom. The program will include a presentation of the history and significance of the new national holiday, original poetry, dance, music, and reminiscences of Juneteenths past. Register here.

SDARJ May Town Hall – Kidnapping & Terrorism: The Reverse Underground Railroad
The SDARJ’s May Town Hall, scheduled for Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., and will feature Dr. Richard Bell, the author of Stolen: Five Free Boys Kidnapped Into Slavery and Their Astonishing Odyssey Home. REGISTER FOR THE TOWN HALL AT: https://reverserailroad.eventbrite.com. Dr. Bell will be describing the Reverse Underground Railroad and Sussex County’s role. He will focus on the period from 1808, when the importation of Africans into enslavement was banned, through the active period of Sussex County’s Cannon-Johnson Gang.
At the Town Hall, the SDARJ will announce a major advance, thank the high-ranking public officials who listened and have acted at the SDARJ’s request and tell of the next steps in this effort at remembering history, good, bad, unfortunate, happy, and sad – which is part of the SDARJ mission.
The SDARJ has arranged with Browseabout Books for anyone purchasing Dr. Bell’s book to receive a book signed by Dr. Bell.
