Announcing The Reminders to Perform at MLK Event
The Reminders are one of the many musical groups who will perform at MLK: From Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach on Friday, January 12 at 7 PM. The Sussex county-based trio has received accolades from the National Endowment for the Arts, Billboard Magazine, and many others. Their music is a unique blend of Americana and folk rock with deep roots in blues, country, and gospel. One of their members, John W. Thompson, co-wrote the Gospel standards El Shaddai and Sanctuary. The group also wrote the song, Mother Emanuel, about the 2015 massacre of nine African American people at Emanuel African Methodist Church in Charleston.
Other performers include Christy Taylor and Friends, The Camp Rehoboth ALLIANCE singers, The Praise Choir of Friendship Baptist Church of Lewes, and Joyful Expressions from Friendship United Methodist Church of Millsboro. The music will be supplemented by a dazzling array of segregation-era pictures from the Lewes Historical Society. Well-known Coast TV personality Paul Williams will emcee the event.
Tickets for the event are $25 and children under 12 are free. Proceeds benefit SDARJ programs including scholarships, academic recognition, criminal justice reform, Black Voices Magazine, racial reconciliation workshops, and more. To purchase tickets, go to https://bit.ly/mlktickets.
