A Message From the Board Chair
The recent election may have caused stress, anxiety, and questions about our national future. We want you to know the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice is still here. We are here and will continue our mission to educate, inform and advocate for racial justice, equity, and fair opportunity.
We will continue to run our town halls, book club, and DTER courses. Our Legislative Advocacy Committee will still advocate for legislation that advances our mission and against legislation that threatens it. Our Education Committee will continue to support the children in our Sussex County school districts. Our Returning Citizens Support Committee will continue to assist formerly incarcerated individuals by referring them to organizations that can help them get back on their feet. Events & Excursions will continue to offer events that celebrate and educate us about African American heritage. Black Voices will continue to amplify those voices in both an historical and contemporary context in Sussex County. We will continue to oppose and call out racism when we see it.
Our 2025 legislative priorities include continuing the fight to achieve probation reform; to pass legislation eliminating fines and fees for those who cannot afford them; to achieve police accountability; continuing to advocate to ensure that women’s reproductive health (including black maternal health), LGBTQ+ rights, and gender affirming care are protected; advocacy to promote affordable housing; and continuing to advocate for employee rights, voting rights and environmental justice. We will continue to work closely with ACLU Delaware and other organizations to achieve these goals.
Now more the ever it is critical to support our work in the face of newly emerging challenges. We are here for you. So please consider joining the Alliance and passing along your inquiries to info@sdarj.org.
