Town hall – Addressing the Silences: What’s Next for Our Community
We invite you to join us for our upcoming Community Town Hall, where we will share exciting news about the programs and initiatives taking shape through our partnership. This evening is dedicated to you — the neighbors, families, and residents who make this community what it is — and we look forward to sharing what we have been working on together.
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) and the John Dickinson Plantation (JDP) have been engaged in meaningful, community-centered work as part of the national Addressing the Silences initiative — a collaboration recognized nationally as a model for how communities and institutions can work together to tell history more fully and honestly. At this Town Hall, we are proud to unveil what comes next: new programs, expanded storytelling projects, and fresh opportunities for your involvement.
During the evening, representatives from SDARJ and JDP will walk you through upcoming initiatives designed to deepen community engagement, expand inclusive storytelling, and create new avenues for residents to connect with the history of Southern Delaware. You will hear about programs currently in development, learn how community voices have already shaped the work, and discover the ways you can continue to participate — whether through listening, contributing your own family’s stories, or becoming an active member of the Community Partner Committee.
This partnership was built on the belief that history belongs to everyone — and that the stories of enslaved, free, and indentured Black individuals who lived, labored, and endured at the Plantation deserve to be told with accuracy, dignity, and care. The upcoming programs emerging from this collaboration reflect that commitment, and the Town Hall is your opportunity to hear directly from the people doing the work and to add your voice to the conversation.
No registration is required. Come as you are. Bring your curiosity, your questions, and your community.
