Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice Joins Juneteenth Celebration in Georgetown
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) took part in Georgetown’s annual Juneteenth Celebration today, highlighting our ongoing commitment to promoting racial justice and community engagement.
Under a bright blue tent adorned with the SDARJ logo and mission statement, volunteers greeted attendees with educational materials, merchandise, and information about the organization’s initiatives. The booth featured t-shirts, hats, and literature with messages such as “Racism Hurts Everyone,” drawing attention to SDARJ’s advocacy work and the broader goals of the Juneteenth holiday.
The event, held on the grounds of the Richard Allen School, brought together community members for a day of remembrance, celebration, and education about the significance of Juneteenth—the youngest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. SDARJ’s participation included not only the information table but also involvement in the Juneteenth parade, which featured local organizations, families, and supporters marching to honor the legacy of emancipation and the ongoing struggle for equality.
Throughout the day, visitors to the SDARJ booth learned about the group’s educational programs, youth initiatives, scholarship opportunities, and ways to get involved in future events and advocacy efforts. The celebration also featured food vendors, health screenings, music, and children’s activities, reflecting Juneteenth’s inclusive and festive spirit.
SDARJ’s presence at the Georgetown Juneteenth Celebration underscored the importance of community collaboration in the fight against racism and the promotion of justice, echoing the holiday’s enduring message of freedom, remembrance, and hope for the future.
