Introduction:
SDARJ seeks an Executive Director (ED) to partner with the Board and Steering Committee to implement the vision and plan of the organization. This position may be full-time or part-time and reports directly to the SDARJ Board chair. The ED’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Responsibilities:
General Public Outreach:
- Support Board/Committee projects, actively engage in growing contacts, volunteer lists, can target social media outreach, newsletters, direct mail, voter registration, and texting campaigns.
- Drive outreach to provide relevant news media, direct mail and keep all informed by building and continuing to maintain relationships with local, county, and national leaders.
- Assist with Public Relations and serve as a spokesperson when requested and
Fundraising
- Partner with the Fundraising Committee to identify and pursue new revenue sources and fundraising programs for the organization, including potential individual and PAC donors from constituent groups.
- Demonstrate expertise in grant processes, including application, monitoring, reporting, evaluating assessing, and compliance.
- Assist the Chair with building and maintaining relationships with donors and donor groups, following up as needed, and actively participating in Fundraising Events, and other relevant committees to continue to maintain and enhance the strong SDARJ brand.
- Use external presence and relationships to maintain and attract new opportunities.
Administration
- Engage with officers and committees to manage operations (data, reporting, and event/activity debriefings). Assist in preparing materials for Executive Committee meetings, conventions, and special
- Serve as thought-leader and advocate for SDARJ internally and externally. Perform additional duties as requested by Chair and in partnership with Steering Committees.
- Continue to promote a culture rooted in compassion, innovation, and flexibility to support team members’ hard work and sustain a healthy, energetic morale in a sometimes-challenging environment.
- Collaborate with the finance committee to ensure the organization operates in a manner that supports programs, staff, and stewardship of the organization.
- Provide strategic guidance on branding, messaging, and marketing efforts to raise awareness, visibility, and increase community support of the SDARJ’s mission and vision.
- Ensure clarity and consistency throughout the organization’s strategy, operational methods, and internal processes at the Board/Committee and staff level to support the continued development and management of a professional and efficient organization.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree preferred, with at least 3-5+ years of Fundraising/Executive Director or management experience.
- Non-profit management experience a plus: track record of effectively leading and regionally and/or nationally scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff.
- Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next level of growth.
- Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
- Past successes working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
- Strong marketing, public relations, fundraising, and grant management experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
- Ability to effectively partner and collaborate with diverse groups of people.
- The ED should have passion, integrity, a positive attitude, be mission-driven, and self-directed.
