We are honoring East Millsboro Elementary fifth graders Za’Laya & Alijah for their leadership, effort, and excellence
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice (SDARJ) recently honored East Millsboro Elementary fifth graders Za’Laya DeShields and Alijah Sturgis for their leadership, effort, and excellence.
Alijah is a hard-working student who puts great effort into everything he does, whether it is his schoolwork or being kind to others. Alijah models everyday excellence as he comes to school ready to learn and is always prepared. He is a selfless student who prioritizes others’ needs.
Za’Laya is an exemplary student who consistently demonstrates outstanding leadership, improvement, effort, and excellence. One of Za’Laya’s remarkable qualities is her commitment to being a peer mentor for younger students. She connects with these students effortlessly because of her compassionate and patient nature. Her Za’Laya’s dedication to helping others succeed is truly inspiring.
Za’Laya also assists with the operation of small group stations. Her organizational skills ensure that every student receives the attention and guidance they need to reach their full potential.
SDARJ initiated the African American Achievement award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, effort, and excellence in their schools. Students from each school in the Cape Henlopen and Indian River School Districts are recognized throughout the school year. SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs, and advocates for racial justice, equality, and fair opportunity. For more information click here.
