Do not rely on rumors when you are living on a low income and need help to get food or health insurance, to care for grandchildren or for other basics of daily life! Contact your local State Services Center or call 3002-255-9040 to apply for any and all benefits for which you may be eligible.
2
If you are nearing retirement age and will apply for Medicare, it is wise to contact MDAP for help figuring out which prescription and/or dental insurance would best fit your needs and budget. Choosing a supplemental plan (to cover common medical expenses not covered by Medicare) is a very important decision. Counselors at MDAP can assist with this as well. Insurance companies that participate as supplements are for profit companies. Take advantage of DMAP free counseling by calling 800-336-9500 or 302-674-7364.

The Budget Bill that Congress is debating right now is set to make deep cuts in federal funding for Medicaid, SNAP (formerly Food Stamps) and other programs. These reductions may result in the closure of many rural hospitals and no medical care for over 16 million Americans. States will be forced to decide whether to adjust their budgets to cover the lost federal funding, and many will be unable to do this. The proposed cuts will mean tha hundreds of thousands of our neighbors and us will not have enough money to buy enough food to remain healthy.
4
In Delaware our 2 US Senators and 1 US Representative are opposed to the Budget Cuts. They want to hear from persons who depend on Medicaid and/or SNAP benefits to stay alive. Rep. McBride: 202-225-4165. Senator Blunt Rochester:202-224-2441. Senator Coons:202-224-5042. Encourage friends & family in states with Congress members who are likely to vote yes on the budget to call their representatives to explain how devastating the cuts would be.
5
The cuts to these lifesaving programs are not necessary. They are proposed in order to allow the richest people in this country to have better tax deals on the backs of those of us who desperately need these programs. Stay informed, voice your concerns to our Congressional representatives, stand up for those living in poverty, and see where you can help a neighbor in need.
