Chief Justice Strine on “What Does Access to Justice Actually Mean in Delaware”

The Honorable Leo E. Strine, Jr., Chief Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court, is our guest speaker, who will talk about access to justice and answer questions from the audience.

Two years ago, Chief Justice Strine established a Commission to study the question, “What does access to justice mean in Delaware.” The focus was on these four needs:

  • Efficient delivery and adequate funding of legal services to the poor
  • Judicial branch coordination in helping self-represented litigants
  • The need to increase the pool of legal advisors to help litigants of limited means by exploring roadblocks confronting these lawyers.
  • Fairness in in the adult criminal justice system

Chief Justice Strine will discuss the Commission’s findings, resulting changes and improvements to expect in the future. The audience is encouraged to bring their questions for Chief Justice Strine, and consider how SDARJ can contribute to improving the current system.

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice usually meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 pm, at the Trinity Faith Christian Center at 15516 New Road in Lewes. Our program and business meetings are open to the public. Come to our meetings to learn about racial justice issues, and find out how you may want to become involved with SDARJ.
