Subject: Police and Community Relations

“Bridging the Gap Between Law Enforcement and the Community” will be the focus of our town hall meeting on Tuesday, June 11, 6:30 to 8:00 pm, at the Trinity Faith Center on New Road in Lewes. The program is sponsored by the DE Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE).

Commissioner of the DE Department of Corrections Perry Phelps will head a panel of experts who will explain their initiatives to improve current law enforcement relationships and assistance to local communities. Invited speakers include Chief R.L. Hughes from the Georgetown Police Department, Chief Michael Hertzfeld from the Delaware Capital Police, and Colonel Nate McQueen from the Delaware State Police.

Commissioner Phelps serves on the Wilmington University Criminal Justice Advisory Board, the DelTech Criminal Justice Advisory Board, and the Polytech High School Criminal Justice Program Advisory Board. He is also an adjunct instructor at Wilmington University in the College of Social and Behavioral Services and the College of Business.

The town hall meeting is open to the public, and the audience will have ample time to ask questions following the panel presentation. The Alliance for Racial Justice urges everyone concerned about law enforcement and community policing to attend the meeting.
